If you are looking for a peaceful place, far away from stress and noise, the “Family-" or "Out-Islands” of the Bahamas are the right place for you:
~~ The Tennis Villas ~~
Tennis Villa I and II are located on „Breezy Hill“ with view to both Ocean sides looking over the typical Bahamian Landscape. There are only a few neighbors. So you can enjoy your vacation alone but not lonely. A hotel with restaurant, several sandy or rocky beaches can be reached within a few car minutes (20 - 25 min walk, north-east). The lonely Love Beaches* are reached within a few car minutes south-east. It is recommended to rent a vehicle as beautiful beaches for good swimming are about 20 - 25 car minutes away (Deal's Beach, Cape Santa Maria).
Each house has 2 bedrooms, with a king size bed, or with twin beds, both with closets. There is a spacy bathroom with shower and a separate restroom. In the floor there are more closets. A few stair steps deeper there is a comfortable living room with an American kitchen, all furnished and equipped for your needs. Ceiling fans and AC's are in every room. A big roofed porch at the side connected to the balcony behind each house offer enough space for sunbathing or resting in the shade enjoying a most beautiful view over both Ocean sides watching sunrises and sunsets.
~~ Villa Aqua ~~
Villa AQUA is located directly at the East Ocean side with a rocky and sandy beach formation within a typical Bahamian landscape. With just a few neighbors you can enjoy your vacation privately without feeling lonely. A hotel with restaurant, several sandy or rocky beaches can be reached in a 5 minute walk. The lonely Love Beaches* are reached within a few car minutes south-east. It is recommended to rent a vehicle as beautiful beaches for good swimming are about 20 - 25 car minutes away (Deal's Beach, Cape Santa Maria).
Villa AQUA has 2 large bedrooms (Queen size bed, or two twin beds), both with closets, a desk and a place for sitting inside. All rooms have AC's and ceiling fans. There are two full bathrooms (with bathtubs). Comfortable kitchen area with table and living area are between the bed rooms. Of course the house is fully furnished and equipped with everything you need for a nice vacation. All rooms lead to the big partially roofed porch facing the beautiful Ocean site and inviting for being outside.
~~ Free-3 ~~
Free-3 is located directly at the ocean North-East of Stella Maris, just besides Fox-2 and about 5 walking minutes away from Villa Aqua. Though there are some residential homes nearby, the area is very calm and private and provides nice walks along the road and in the area. A hotel with restaurant, a little boutique and some activities is about 5 - 10 walking minutes away. The nearby beaches are sandy-rocky, so they are not recommended for swimming out. It is recommended to rent a vehicle as beautiful beaches for good swimming are about 20 - 25 car minutes away (Deal's Beach, Cape Santa Maria).
Free-3, the largest house of the four homes, was finished in April 2016: Living room and kitchen are combined. Comfortable sofa, TV- zone and various dining-seating. The kitchen provides everything you need for a good household. Two bedrooms (a king and a queen bed), facing the ocean, have everything for sleeping comfort, the mattresses are memory foam, closets hide your items. The small guest room is nice to rest or for a guest or children with a full sleeper sofa. Two full bathrooms have a tiled tub-shower and plenty of space. The half guest-bath still is spacious. All rooms have separate AC and ceiling fans. On the porch (10 x 50 feet) there is plenty of space to rest and dine and enjoy the ocean view.
~~ Fox-2 ~~
Fox-2 is freshly remodeled 2017 and located just besides "Free-3", and about 5 walking minutes away from "Villa Aqua" these three houses are ideal for larger groups renting two or three houses together. Similar to "Free-3" it has an additional small bedroom (sleeper sofa) for 1 - 2 people and a master bedroom with queen bed to the ocean side. A second bedroom (queen-size bed) to the garden-street side. Two full bathrooms. Two ocean-side porches and a roofed front porch. Spacy living-, kitchen-, and dining area, seating 6 people easily. Equipment, appliances etc. is similar to Free-3. There are seldom, coastal plants on the lot and we try to keep it natural. A concrete way leads to the ocean, sometimes with sandy-rocky beach, sometimes the rocks come out more.
Fox-2 the name is in honor to Mr. and Mrs. Aufochs, who were the first developers. They created the name Stella Maris in the 60's and their first house on the lot was named "Villa-Fox". The "2" refers to the Lot number.
For all houses, please check the pictures, contact information and price list.
~~ General ~~
People on the Island are truly friendly and helpful. Glen & Sheryl Adderley put a lot of love into all houses. They welcome the guests at the airport and give first information. In case of questions or problems you can always refer to them (or to Paulette Davis). Sheryl can clean the house and do the laundry for you for a fair price, if you want. A rental car can be reserved in advance by Glen & Sheryl directly.
Traffic: The Bahamas belong to the British Commonwealth so please drive left. There is only little traffic on Long Island, more craziness in Nassau !
~~ Island Activities ~~
Recreation: Very clean and healthy climate due to salty ocean winds and hardly any pollution. Much sun (think of sun tan lotion !), clearest water. Be prepared for warm summers and mostly pleasant winters on a sub-tropical island. Comfortable clothes welcome at any place, even restaurants.
Sports: The hotel nearby offers some activities, please ask at the reception. The beach reserve is hotel and public. There are some native professionals (ask Glen or Paulette), who offer boating, sport-, deep sea- and bone fishing, snorkeling, Scuba-diving and other activities. Omar Dalay has a gym about 15 car minutes away. He rents cars and offers relaxation massages (Glen and Sheryl can help with the contact). Walking through calm Stella Maris or along the ocean site is a nice morning or evening exercise.
Beaches: There is a rocky sand beach with straw cabanas at the Ocean side where you can bathe in a pond, if the weather is calm. Two sand beaches at the Caribbean side, which are supposed to belong to the most beautiful ones of the world, can be reached by car within 15 to 20 min. Shade available, no rocks, no crowds ! Beach combers should carefully explore the rocky beach areas for shells, washed to shore. The sunny-rocky Love beaches are good for bathing and sun, but not always for swimming. Dean's blue hole is an adventure. Here the international free divers often train and the beach around is wonderful. It is easy to reach within about an hour.
Restaurants are scattered on the island from a small booth with tasty native food up to larger restaurants for local and international dining (hotel). The closer ones are in the range of between 5 min walk or 5 – 20 min. by car. It is worth to try the native food, please ask Glen and Sheryl for the newest hints and perhaps a reservation. At Cape St. Maria the hotel offers a "happy hour" with sunset view. In summer Stella Maris hotel and the Cape may be closed. Some hotels offer dancing like the Rum-Punch-Party at Stella Maris hotel. Please check for prices.
Shopping: A shopping center with groceries and some other items is about 10 car minutes North in Burnt Ground, a larger one is South in Salt Pond about 40 car minutes away. Some small native shops are really good to offer local foods, most important items and also worth to check out. The hotel boutique sells vacation items, books (including about a scientific book about Bush-medicine in the Bahamas). In the South there is more shopping, and "Under the Sun" is combined with a nice snack- and coffee bar.
Tours: Photographers find interesting plants and insects (nothing really poisonous, except for the very seldom poison bush), typical Bahamian sun rises and -sets and landscapes. Bird lovers may find various native birds from small humming birds to elegant ospreys just coming by or at ponds. Plant lovers will find hidden seldom native plants or can enjoy fruits, which are pretty unknown to "ordinary tourists". Here you should ask local people. Pilots will have the opportunity to enjoy the Bahamian Islands also above the (mostly few) clouds. A museum (in the moment under renovation) in Hamilton shows much about culture and history of the Bahamas and especially the island. It is worth making an island round trip either with a rented car or a taxi (the drivers are very nice and know a lot), as it is interesting to see, how these friendly islanders live, to visit the Bahamian historical Museum and library, to see churches, caves, ruins, lonely beaches etc..... Hotels and Local people offer various entertainments and tours, please ask our care taker for re
~~ "Panic Button" ~~
Doctor: A medical physician is
permanently available on the island, with the main clinic in Simms, about 20-25
min by car away. Depending on doctor and some other regulations you can get
treatment sometimes at no costs, sometimes the doctor would ask for a payment.
You should get a receipt including diagnoses, treatment and payment and also
address, so that you can get refunded by your insurance.
In Deadmans Cay there is another clinic and a pharmacy about a good hour away. Personal Health: A good sun tan
lotion with high SPF (e.g. 30-50), perhaps some antihistamines (also cream) in case of
sensitivity against mosquitoes are recommended besides personal regular medication,
of course. Special vaccinations so far are not necessary. A professional
pharmacy is in the South about a 50-60 car minutes away. Police: In Simms there is
a police station in the Government complex, and of course numbers to be
reached. A list is at the house, or please ask Glen. Though you find hardly any crime in Long Island you should not take chances
by leaving valuables visibly in the house. Money: Bahamian- and US-Dollars
are used as well. Before leaving the Bahamas, you may try to get rid of the
Bahamian Dollars, as it is difficult to exchange them in other countries, and an
export is illegal. Credit cards are accepted in many places. The banks
(Scotia-Bank or Royal Bank of Canada in Deadmans Cay) help. There are teller
machines in Stella Maris. If you pay rentals here cash or by check, Glen and
Sheryl should help you. Best is to arrange payments
via Paulette Davis. A list of important contacts
is in all houses, if not, please ask Glen to replace it for you. ~~ Contact
